| Michael Palmer is
a Partner in the Firm's Civil and Commercial Litigation
Practice Group and is also Head of the Sports
and Media Practice Group. Michael’s main
areas of practice are in civil and commercial
litigation and sports law.
Michael has been involved in several high profile
cases involving well known personalities and national
government. He has advised senior members of the
Cabinet and senior members of Parliament in the
prosecution of their defamation actions and the
Philippines Government in relation to the recovery
of monies allegedly appropriated by former President
Marcos and his family.
He has also represented local and international
organisations and entrepreneurs in both litigation
and commercial arbitration involving complex cross
border issues in the industries of telecommunications,
intellectual property and technology and manufacturing.
He has also advised both borrowers and financial
institutions in litigation involving loan restructuring
issues. Some of his cases include acting for the
Business Software Alliance, founding shareholders
of the Raffles Town Club, a leading foreign telecommunications
player and the largest pineapple producer in Thailand.
The Sports and Media Practice Group that he heads
is one of the first of its kind in Singapore.
He represents individual athletes, national sports
associations and governmental organisations in
the development of sports in Singapore and clients
in the media, entertainment and information technology
industries.
Michael is currently an advisor to various clubs
and associations in Singapore, including the Malayan
Racing Association and the Singapore Turf Club,
a role which requires him to advise on their constitution,
rules and regulations and internal dispute resolution
procedures. He is also a Member of the Singapore
Parliament.
Michael was called to the Singapore Bar in 1995.
