| Suressh is a Partner
in the Firm’s Civil and Commercial Litigation
Practice Group. His main area of practice is in
commercial litigation, in particular disputes
relating to employment, shareholder disputes,
misfeasance by company officers, shipping, aviation,
international sales and letters of credit. Suressh
has also been involved in both local and international
arbitrations (supervised by the Singapore International
Arbitration Centre, International Chamber of Commerce),
and has been appointed as arbitrator in several
international maritime cases.
Some of the cases he has been involved in include
acting for the Republic of Philippines in its
recovery in Singapore of some of the monies allegedly
plundered by President Marcos, and acting for
Schroder Venture Asia Pacific Fund in respect
of a dispute relating to its investments of over
US$100 million in Aman Resorts. In the area of
aviation, he has acted for international airlines
in respect of disputes involving aircraft leases
and aviation engineering companies in respect
of claims relating to damage to aircraft, cargo
claims and personal injury claims by passengers.
In the area of employment law, Suressh has successfully
acted for both employers and employees in actions
involving restrictive covenants in employment
contracts.
Recently Suressh was also part of the team advising
on the successful bid by Las Vegas Sands Corp
for the Marina Bay Integrated Resort, and has
continued to act for Marina Bay Sands, in addition
to financing for the project, on the Casino Control
Act and has dealt regularly with the Casino Regulatory
Authority. He is a contributing editor for Singapore
Civil Procedure (the Singapore White Book), and
a contributor to the Singapore Precedents of Pleadings.
He co-wrote the chapter on Singapore in “Getting
the Deal Through – Dispute Resolution 2007.”
Suressh was previously a magistrate and deputy
registrar in the Singapore Subordinate Courts.
He was a Government scholar and graduated from
the Oxford University in 1983.
Suressh was called to the Singapore Bar in 1990.
